Engagement Photography

We caught up with some wonderful new friends for an engagement photography session in May, 2016. This was a great evening on the Kennebec River. We like to arrive on location about a half hour early just to be ready and relaxed for the session. One of the many things to consider when scheduling a shoot with your photographer:

Is there anything else scheduled that will potentially conflict for that location at the scheduled time? If so, will it interrupt the shoot? What if there is no publicly available schedule?

Let’s take another step further and say that you have arrived on location for your engagement shoot and it is prom night. There are twenty teen couples waiting in line, on the edge of the river, to hear the shutter snap. All are dressed in gowns and tuxedos. What happens now? Do we reschedule the shoot?

The answer is most likely the following. Most people aren’t really looking for the light your photographer is looking for. It’s pretty simple. When you have a pack of wild teens, dressed and ready for prom, or others snapping photos of their dog catching a frisbee – don’t panic. We all do it. You know there is a limited amount of time to recreate and those kids have to get to the prom on time. A little patience and perseverance will pay dividends in the long run. Just as all other start to clear the scene, you’ll still be there with all the gear set up and ready to start an intimate shoot in golden light.

JJC PhotoGraphic uses this time to fully understand and develop a client’s profile. This is the time when you hear the photographer develop a little chat about hobbies and future plans. Understanding a wedding client can take a little time for the photographer and an engagement session can really help to support that important component of the process.
