BAXTER-SITTING
Governor Percival Baxter

Ever wonder what drove Percival P. Baxter, governor of Maine during the years of 1921-1924, to donate 6,000 acres of land to the people of the state of Maine? In 1931, after aquiring the 6,000 acre parcel which included Katahdin (Maine’s highest peak), he donated the land to the people of the state of Maine under the conditions it be kept forever wild. Today Baxter State Park covers a total of 209, 644 acres.

How does all this relate to Maine photographer in Belgrade? Well, as you may know, JJC PhotoGraphic has been using the motto “Capture Essence®” since 2009 and believes that capturing the essence of a subject can be much more than just building a composition within the frame. It is a grand gesture that, as time passes, can express a grand and timeless language.

We are left with the following words of inspiration. Originally meant to inspire the respectful use and stewardship of Baxter State Park, we read these words now to kindle the fire of our own social obligations:

Man is born to die,
His works are short-lived.
Buildings crumble,
Monuments decay,
Wealth vanishes.
But Katahdin in all its glory,
Forever shall remain
The Mountain
of
The People of Maine
